Answers

What are Vermont Islands?

Vermont Islands are modular, mobile food service carts consisting primarily of outdoor kitchen and bar components for commercial, custom and residential applications.

Vermont Islands are built-to-order or custom built from from Ipe (pronounced EEPAY), a durable tropical hardwood that is resistant to warping, rot, insects and the effects of weather.

Vermont Islands have polished granite counter tops and high-end stainless steel appliances.

Vermont Islands are also made for a variety interior foodservice applications including bars, buffets, carts and kiosks; from a wide range of materials - hardwoods, stainless steel and the latest high-tech marine polymers.

Can Vermont Islands stay outside all year-round?

Yes, Vermont Islands are specifically designed for use outdoors and to stand up to the elements even in extreme conditions such as the high-humidity and salt environments of beach-side properties or winter in the North East.

Heavy-duty vinyl covers are available for all Vermont Islands as additional protection from the elements. Covering outdoor islands when not in use is recommended to help fight the effects of weather and time.

Our unique tongue and groove construction method allows the cabinets to expand and contract with changing weather conditions without cracking or warping.

Can appliances stay outside all year-round?

Appliances such as grills and side-burners can stay outside and run all year.

Appliances such as refrigerators and ice makers should be unplugged through the winter months in areas where the temperature can go below freezing.

Refrigerators and ice makers not in use during these times should be left with the door slightly ajar to prevent mildew and mold. Please consult individual manufacturer's owner's manuals for details about winterizing your appliances.

Any water in drain lines or water feed lines should be emptied in cold climates to prevent breaking lines and pipes.

The finish on my Vermont Islands is starting to fade, what can I do?

Vermont Islands are finished with Messmer's UV Plus for Hardwood Decks.

Color fading is natural and will occur over time.

Ipe will gradually fade to a beautiful silver-gray color and many owners will let this process happen naturally.

To restore the finish to its original dark, rich color simply apply a new coat of Messmer's, following the directions for use on the can.

Spring is usually the best time of year to do an annual refinish of Vermont Islands.
